La Plata Food Policy Council

Winne MeetingLatest Minutes:

NOTE: (The council is inactive at this time. If interested in helping restart it, contact Jim Dyer)

  • Minutes from the 26-Sept 2016 meeting
  • Minutes from the 15-Dec-2015 meeting

About the Council

We have had a local food policy group here for over 11 years in various forms, but always focused on food access and security and promoting a strong local food system. Since we have a variety of local food groups here, we leave projects to these groups, and concentrate on watching for issues and opportunities to improve local policies. HCFS is currently coordinating this effort with at least two meetings per year. We are an informal group with open meetings and strive to have representatives of the main local food groups attending to monitor four areas of concern (below) and making recommendations for specific actions to appropriate groups.

Main Areas of Concern:

  • Food access and security
  • Farm to School and Preschool
  • Coordination among local food groups
  • Specific emerging policy issues and opportunities

How to Get Involved

Interested individuals can attend meetings or simply be on a mailing list to stay informed. If you would like to be on our mailing list for meeting announcements, minutes, and occasional news items, contact Jim Dyer.

There are several key resources for the La Plata County area on our HCFS Local Food Policy page.
