Land Link

This page is a first step in trying to link willing growers with those people with appropriate land. It will be a simple bulletin board format for now, but hopefully will evolve as we learn more about the needs of the prospective grower and the land owner including resources on appropriate arrangements for securing land for production such as leases and other methods. Please contact Jim Dyer if you would like to post a listing.

We are simply listing information we receive and in no way can verify any statements made. Any agreements are solely between the individuals who make contact.

LISTINGS (most recent first):

  • New: Durango/Animas Valley Organic Farm Lease: I am looking to lease my organic farm. I started the farm in 2010 had it USDA certified and worked it myself for the first 2 years then leased it. Linley of Adobe leased it with a successful CSA for 2 years and last year I let it go fallow. There are 2 fields each one about 1.5 acres in size with 12 foot fencing, excellent sandy loam soil, abundant water, a large hoop house, well and surface irrigation. The farm is located at a beautiful Animas Valley location right off 32nd St. I do not want the traffic of a CSA any longer. I will lease at a very reasonable price for a low impact operation. A research operation would be perfect. One field could be leased long term, the other for one season with possibility to renew. Please contact: Paul Sugnet, paulsugnet@gmail.com. Posted 1/17/17.
  • New: San Luis Valley Partnership: I am looking for an energetic entrepreneur to partner in raising healthful, highly nutritious meat while improving soil fertility on 800 acres in the San Luis Valley of Colorado.  The partner would have knowledge and experience in pastured pork production including marketing, purchasing animals, supplement feed and working with processors.  My contribution would be the land and infrastructure including boundary fencing, stock water system, sorting and loading pens, 50% of animal purchases (two to five hundred weaner pigs), 50% of operating expenses, and close communication for support and information and planning.  Partner financial contribution would be labor (being there every day) to move pigs, fence and portable shade structures using a holistic planned grazing system; to monitor soil and forage conditions and health and performance of animals, check water and put out supplement feed as needed; marketing; 50% of animal purchases and 50% of operating expenses.  I am expecting operation period to be 7 to 8 months annually, April through October.  Very good financial return potential.  Net would be split 50 50.  I am considering a smaller scale venture for 2017 with full production in 2018.  Successful candidate would demonstrate honesty, integrity, solid work ethic, with a commitment to soil health and animal performance.  I look forward to a discussion with you to explore our mutual interests, questions, background and experience. Please contact: Donnie Whitten, pkm.whitten@gmail.com. Posted 1/9/17
  • 35 acres in Elbert County: some of land is being used as horse pasture. Water and electricity is available. Some fencing. Road access is about 30 miles of a dirt road outside of Kiowa. One house with a well water. House is three bedroom and two bath. It was built in 1996. Has a garage. There is a barn. These are currently not for lease/rent. Farm has a potential to generate income but was not farmed before. There is grazing on all the property (with a lot of soap yucca and para cactus – another way to generate income by selling these plants). No irrigation. I am currently searching to lease the land. Also, I will not be allowing any pesticides or chemicals on the land. Please contact: Patrick 720-226-2582. Posted 4/29/15
  • Looking for Land: Our names are Haley Osborne and Steph Jordan, we live in Durango and are seeking land around the area. We both come from farming backgrounds (dairy, vegetable, animal) and hope to start an organic vegetable farm with the potential (if available) of growing to include livestock. If your land is still available and you are still interested it would be wonderful to hear back from you. Or if you know of anyone in the area who does have available land we would greatly appreciate the contact. steph.r.jordan@gmail.com or haleyeosbourne@gmail.com Posted 10/7/14
  • One acre ten miles south of Durango: Land has been used as horse pasture. Sprinkler system in and water available. I’d like someone with a green thumb to work a garden(s) into it in exchange for some of the produce. Contact Steve Harris Cell 760-413-0885 or josar_6@yahoo.com Posted 8 May 2014

Being Proactive—as a Community—About Climate Change in our Local Food Systems and Foodsheds

May 6, 2026

Fickle Monsoons, Summer in March, and Hot Summer Nights: Climate change is here, has been seriously affecting local agriculture, and will certainly get worse. It will take some serious effort to adjust our local food production and local food systems to the extent needed, so why not ramp up efforts now to adapt and help […]
